Boosting Small Businesses and Empowering Nonprofits Doesn’t Stop with Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all that we have to be thankful for. It is also the beginning of the holiday giving season for many people, and a time when we consider ways in which we might give back. Two key events have grown in the past few years that provide the opportunity to support our local communities. Below we focus on these two days and their history, keeping in mind that every day is a great day to support small business and the charitable organizations that provide needed services to our extraordinary communities.
Small Business Saturday and Giving Tuesday were established to support small businesses and nonprofits. These are two days dedicated to supporting small businesses and nonprofits during the holiday season. Small Business Saturday falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, while Giving Tuesday is celebrated on the following Tuesday.
Small Business Saturday – November 25, 2023
Small Business Saturday is a shopping day established to encourage consumers to support small businesses in their communities. It was first observed in 2010, and since then, it has become a holiday tradition to celebrate and support small businesses. By shopping at a locally-owned small business, you can get unique and high-quality items, while contributing to the growth of the local economy. To support small businesses on Small Business Saturday, you should visit your local small businesses, promote and share their products and services on social media, and invite neighbors and friends to shop with you. Giving Tuesday – November 28, 2023
Giving Tuesday was created in response to the commercialization of the holiday season. It is a global generosity movement that encourages individuals and organizations to support nonprofits and charitable causes. Giving Tuesday makes it easy for you to give back to your community by donating to a nonprofit organization of your choice. Just like with Small Business Saturday, you can also promote your favorite nonprofit on social media, encourage friends to donate, or volunteer your time and talents. Learn about local nonprofits in your area and identify ideas to participate in Giving Tuesday and beyond by visiting the Giving Tuesday website.
